Rio Tinto secured a 30-year power purchase agreement with Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation for the Jinbi Solar Project in Western Australia. Stage one includes a 75MWac solar facility, expandable to 150MWac with battery storage, expected to fully operate by mid-2028. This partnership involves Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation and ACEN, supporting decarbonization of Rio's Pilbara Iron Ore operations.
The agreement marks a critical step towards Rio’s sustainability targets, reducing dependence on fossil fuels for its mining operations and potentially lowering operating costs over time.
